Show PROGRESSIVES WIN AGAIN. Whenever there is an election this year it is the old story. As between Republicans it is-always tho progressives progress-ives that win. The State of Washington Washing-ton adds its talo to the pile of bricks that arc thrown at the regulars or standpatters. In tho primaries in that State the standpatters are completely, routed. Miles Poindexter of Spokane, whom the standpatters in their convention conven-tion declared pointedly and explicitly against as candidate for U. S. Senator, wins by 40,000 plurality. Ho carried every county in. the stato but one, defeating de-feating his chief opponent in that opponent's op-ponent's own precinct and carrying the county of the other regular candidate against him. The progressives also gain a Congressman, Con-gressman, that in tho second or Tacoma Ta-coma district. Washington has three Representatives in Congress. The progressives pro-gressives elect two of those", tho only survivor of the insurgent storm being William E. Humphrey, standpatter, who was renominated iu the first district. It is a tremcndouB victory for progress prog-ress and for tho vitalizing of tho Republican Re-publican party, but as that has come to be the regular thing now, wo cease to wonder nt it, but still congratulate upon it. The wonder would be to see some Republican State dcclaro for tho standpatters, with a prospect of staying stay-ing Republican. ,' In Ohio, whoro the stnndpatters won, tho State is lost to the party. And now New Jersey, in ranging itself with the old "gang, seems feeling out for a prcciplco over which to fall. |
