Show BRICK TRUST H IDEWDICIEI Chicago Federal Grand Jury Seems Determined to Make Cleanup. CHICAGO, Sept. U The so called brick ,11-ust was indicted by the federal grand jury today, charged with violation of tho Sherman anti-trust law. Four Individuals In-dividuals and three companies are named. Those Indicted are: D. V. Purington, president of the Pu-rlngton Pu-rlngton Paving Brick company of Gales-burg. Gales-burg. 111.; C. C. Bnrr, president of the Barr Clay company of Reading, III.; II. S. Bonkert. secretary of the Metropolitan Paving Brick company of Canton. O.; William F. Brennan, Chicago, sales agent for tho three companies. Tho companies represented by the foregoing Individuals also were Indicted. Judge Landls In the United States district dis-trict court Issued bench warrants against the accused. It Is alleged that the defendants de-fendants were engaged In a combination In rostralnt of trade and that annual meetings were held at which the price of brick for Chicago was fixed An unusual story lies back of the return re-turn of the indictment. Brennan, the saics agent, was prominent politically. D. J. Christopher was an Inspector employed em-ployed by tho ritv to pass on paving brick. Brennan Is alleged to have taken Christopher.; wife. Mrs. Aliecn Christopher, Christo-pher, Into partnership In tho sales agency. A year ago Inspector Christopher lost his position with tho city and somewhat later Mrs. Christopher sued Brennan for what she alleged was her share In tho profits of the agency. Sho lost the suit but carried tho matter mat-ter to the authorities. She and her husband hus-band wero witnesses before tho grand Jury. |
