Ten Broeck. a saloonkeeper at Llntah. recently was found guilty of selling sell-ing liquor to an Indian on two counts, and was sentenced to tho penitentiary for ono year and fined $150. He will arrive ar-rive in .S'nlt Lako Tuesday. Last September ilenry Johnson, a Ute Indian, was urreslcd on a chargo 0 criminally assaulting the daughter of the postmaster at Uintah, a girl of 10, pleaded plead-ed guilty and was sentenced to a term of seven years. lie claimed at the time that he was drunk and that ho got tho whiskey from Ten Broeck. At Ten Brocck's trial last week the postmaster's daughter testified that Johnson had not assaulted her. An effort now will be made to secure the pardon of tho Indian. ! . 1 |
