Daniel Doyle, insensible from an overdose over-dose of "dope." to which he is addicted, ad-dicted, was picked up in tho rear of 33 Plum alley by Policeman Pierce about 6 o'clock Saturday afternoon and lodged in the city jail as a vagrant. When Doyle returned to consciousness his pleadings for tho drug that had been taken from him were pitiful. Doyle, who is about 21 3'ears old and does "not bear a bad face, has only one leg. He says he lost a leg iu beating his way out hero from his home in Connecticut Con-necticut about a month ago. A country physician amputated the member afte'r a Irain ran over it and almost mashed it off. and did a bungling job. He says that he feels pain continuously in the missing part of his leg and claims that "dope is the onlj' thing that alleviates allevi-ates the imaginery misery. "If you don't give me back that 'dope,' " he pleaded, "I'll go crazj- or die." Rather than see tho unfortunate beggar suffer suf-fer such intense pain, the police supplied sup-plied him with some of the drug, and he immediately became quiet. |
