WOMAN SUCCESSFULLY FIGHTS OFF ASSAILANT NEW YORK, July 11. Awakened at an early hour this morning bv the pressure about her throat, Mrs. George Whitley, of Boston, a niece of the late Mrs. Charles F. Fair, discovered that she was being gagged by a masked man. She was unable to scream, but she fought desperately and awakened her brother in law. Frank B. Leonard, at whose homo she is slaying in Caldwell, Cald-well, N. V. He burst into the room 1 and the man jumped from a second Blory window aud escaped. The police are ' inclined to believo that tho intruder in-truder was not a burglar.
