Show SHOUT LI DEPOT Reinforced Concrete Pillars Have Now Reached Second Floor in Roth Wings. FOOT BRIDGE WILL BE ' ERECTED NEXT MONTH Steel for Central Portion of Structure Will Arrive Within With-in Sixty Days. One hundred and twenty-fivo men were actively at work on tho new joint Oregon Short Line and Salt Lake Route depot Saturday, and already the reinforced rein-forced concrete pillars have reached the height of tho second floor on both the south and north wings of tho structure. In anothor week both floors will bo finished, so far the the concrete work j is concerned. There willrbo thrco floors in each wing. Tho contral portion' of the structuro, running to a height of 100 feet on South Temple, will be of steel, and all tho material will be on the ground within sixty days. Pari of it will arrive ar-rive here in thirty days, but it will take sixty days to finish the order. Immediately it is received it will bo put in place. Thia will occupy some three weeks, and the whole structure will bo roofed before gloomy winter arrives. Residents in the western portion of the city will welcome tho news that the steol for the foot bridge, which will span South Temple, from Third to 1 ou'rth West streets, will be on hand within thirty days, and immediately upon up-on its receipt the steel structure will be put in place, thus expediting travel to and from these two sections of the cit,3'. This bridge for pedestrians is ncccssar3r because of the closing of South Temple, and the piers arc alreatty in place. Now Asking for Bids. Bids arc now being asked for the stono and brick work, the electrical fittings, aud tho plumbing aud heating work. When received they will be classified and the successful contractors determined. Although much work has 3-et to bo accomplished, the building is now assuming as-suming definite shapo. The pillars are still inclosed in the wooden boxes, but , a view from the west gives sonic idea of the contour of the structure. All the appropriations have bceu made for the building and with no interruptions in the future, and none are expected, tho Union station will be an aceoi i-plisbed i-plisbed fact bv the end of April or beginning of May, 1009. |
