Show WORSHIPERS SLAIN B DRURKER BRUTES Four Shot Down While Leaving Door ol Little Church in East Tennessee. JJELLICO, Tenn., Sep. 2S. Ouo of the bloodiest affairs in the history of East Tennessee occurred near the Tcn-nessco-Keulucky line north of Anthras postofficc yesterday. The scene was a little Baptist church, near which is a "blind tiger." Services had closed and nearly all the congregation had emerged from the church when a crowd of drunken men. who had visited tho ''blind tiger." began fring into thei worshipers with pistols. John Bennett, J. W. IcKiuney and Edward Thomas wore shot down at tho church door and died almost instantly, strenms of blood from their wounds flowing down tho steps of the little church. The preacher. Pev. Kind, was shot and mortally wounded, falling in the churchyard. Another worshiper named Gibsou was also shot down in front of Iho church, but is not daugcr-ously daugcr-ously wounded. Anthras is five miles from a railroad nnd has no telephone connection. .Tcl-lico .Tcl-lico officers could not learn the names of any of the men implicated in the shooting. All of tho dead and wounded men havo families except Bennett. |
