Show Ht . .: Hj DR. WILLIAM SPURGEON ON j ) THE GREAT WELSH REVIVAL i Dr. William Spurgcon, the English j evangelist, spoke on the "Great Welsh ' -Revival" in the auditorium of the j -First Presbyterian church Monday I ;. night. The large auditorium wns taxed I1, , Jo it capacity. Dr. Spurgcon will do-. I liver his last lecture in this citi' this f evening at the Central Christian 1: ' church, Concerning the religious rc- l.fv vival which swept over Wales in .1904, Bt First of all, then, I want tn huv a word Hf t about the spontntiolty of thlfi great work. Bl AV? Generally expect that before wc have W; fl '"rgo outpouring of God's spirit there H niuat be a great deal of propuratlon. In Wr mc l),acL9I1 that ' nil right. Witness H : UR , niBBnlllcent work performed by M. ; Moody and bankoy,. Torrey and Alcxan- 1' "or and many others. It w,Bt? -I"8J- tf flfV that tho efTcct of ,5l revival has been that over 100.000 ew converts havo joined the various B ' churches at the end of twelve months 1 I' nd I will try to give you In a ver brief B. w way thp summing up of the rim twelve 1 t 21?"t1,a, work' . WBtrf sny that, In 0 r 2 Judgment, the rero?t that we bad . 7i: ,"firfectl) UiUd and was a aatls- 1 faction and a joy to us all One hundred thousand new converts! Well, at the end of twelve months 115 per cent of them were standing llrm and fast In the faith, and I appeal to you whether you can Und anything like it In history. There linvo been many great rovivals. but not with 05 per cunt of them standing tlrm und fast at tho end of twelve months. It is a good thing to get religion Into a man head; a good thing as far as It goes; but you want to get religion down from a man's head Into hl. hoart. But I do not think that enour. Vou want to go right down to head and heart, but you also want to get down to the pocket, and a man who will pav for his religion is a downright good, genuine soul. In thin way Welsh converts proved their conversion. Tho glory of tho Welsh revival lies largely along this line, that the converts are mostly men. In mot rovivals the big part of converts are women, but these are mostly men. and worklngmen, colliers who swear and think that Is th way to talk. Indulge in gambling, drinking, etc.; but with this class many of those wondera of d I vino grace have bocn wrought. That is the way now that tiieau men have proved thnlr rallorlon.' |
