A Japanese, who refused to divulge his name, whs arrested at Rlopelown, a few miles from this rlly. last night, after a hard struggle in which he succeeded in almost completely com-pletely chewing off two lingers of Draughtsman Clinton, who was trying to hold him until ofllccrs arrived. Clinton, who Is an expert draughtsman, was in a saloon when approached by tho Japanese, who. ufter talking on x'urlous subjects, finally asked Clinton if ho would go with him to San Francisco and get drawings of the fortifications there, assuring Clinton he would pay him well. Clinton Indignantly refused und held on to the Japanese until officers arrived. The .Tnpanese is now in jail and the police, po-lice, are looking for his possessions, In which I hey hope lo llnd Incriminating evidence. |
