At the hour of adjournment in tho criminal division of tho Third District court Tuesday afternoon, two jurors had been ncccptcd in tho case of the .Stato against iToc Sullivan, in which tho defendant is charged with murder in the first degree for tho alleged killing kill-ing of Police Oflicer Charles S. "Ford. Those jurors are: Thomas Alston, for-I for-I mer Comity Recorder, now an em piny 00 'of the Utah Light and Railway company, com-pany, and Snmuel Oldham, an employee of fho same company. When court convened Tuesday morning, morn-ing, tho two jurors L. T. Lar'sen and L. J. Taufor, for whom bench warrants war-rants had boeu issued the precoding day were present. Both had good excuses ex-cuses for their failure to be present ! Monday and wore not punished. Both, however, wero excused upon statutory grounds. Deputy Clerk King was then directed to call tweho men into tho jury box lo be examined ns to their fitness to serve as jurors in tho Siiilivan case, and the following wero called: Samuel Sam-uel Oldham, b. H. Farnsworth, (J. L. Reed, Thomas Alston. E. D. Wickons, E. 1. Scnvillc. W. E. Block, W, P. Adams, Andrew Oakson, Frank Wipe-man, Wipe-man, George Ross and Zachariah T. .Derrick. The examination of fheso twelve I men took up the time of the court un-I un-I til -1:50 in the afternoon and at that I hour tho following had been excused for the reasons assigned: L. II. Farnsworth. 13. P. Scoville. E. D. Wickons, W. E. Block. V. F. Adams, Frank Wiseman and Zachariah T. Dor-riok Dor-riok excused for cause. C. L. Reed. Andrew Oakson and George Ross, peremptorily challenged by the defense. As only two jurors remained in tho box. the dopuly clerk called ten additional addi-tional liicn, as follows. Wnlter R. Navlor. Hugh W. Dougall. H. ,T. Bull. E. B. Bntterfiold, W. A. Hilton, W. S. Vincent, Charles Denny, Theodore Ny-strom, Ny-strom, George Packett and L. N. Latch. When Wnlter K. Naylor had been examined and excused for cause, an adjournment was taken until 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, Samuel Oldham and Thomas Alston, the two accepted jurors, were turned over lo a doputv sheriff and taken to the Kenyan hotel for the uiirht. |
