Apparently deserted by a heartless husband, who took the money she liad partly earned and helped him save by taking in washing, Mrs. George M. Valentine, 351 Carsou avenue, the mother moth-er of five children ranging in ages from three months to eleven years, is in destitute des-titute circumstances and. assuredly a fitting object of charity. Valentine left homo Thursdaj- of last week, she anys, leaving no funds tp purchase food or clothing for tho balnea. Where ho went sho doos not know, but njionds told her they saw him buy a 'railway ticket to Portland, Ore., and afterward board a westbound train. Two days prior to his disappearance disap-pearance from home. Mnrch -1, he withdrew with-drew from the Zion's Savings bank $80 that Mrs. Valentine says she partly earned and partly helped him Bave by taking in washing in the hope of buying buy-ing a little home some day. Mrs. Valentino says her rent ib due nnd she has no means of obtaining the money to pay it except by washing, and to do this requires leaving of the little children at home, in an unwarmcd house. Vvork is uncertain and sometimes some-times the only fire the children onioy is mado of sticks picked up by the little lit-tle ones. Hor oldest son, II, is trying to help his mother by Helling newspapers, newspa-pers, but the money ho earns in this manner does not go far toward paying the rent, clothing tho little ones, buying buy-ing coal and food. Tho children are scantily clad and suffer from the cold and unless Mrs. Valentine receives assistance as-sistance sho may be forced into the stroets. |
