Show PATENTING GROUND IS I VERY SLOW PROCESS Numerous Complaints Over Hie Delays in tlie Surveyor-General's Surveyor-General's Office. The delay incident lo scouring a patent on mining propertlos in the West Is occasioning oc-casioning no end of trouble and additional addi-tional expense In the mining fraternity In general. So Tar behind Is the Surveyor-General's office, thai applications for patent have- been sleeping for months in that office without a word regarding the same being heard. A woll-known mining man of Utah stated lo The Tribune Wednesday. "Sometime ago I read that the Government Gov-ernment would refuse to Issue any more patents on mining land until a special agent had been dispatched to inspect the ground Involved. I do not know h thi.i rule of the department le atlll ln effect, but if it Is the Government should cither revoke It or provide the country with an adequate number of special agents. But what I do know is that patents are being held up beyond all reason. "Eight mouthri or more ugo my company com-pany tiled its application for a patent on mining ground, each requirement of the law relating (hereto being compiled with to the letler. Tho application has been sleeping, apparently, to date, for wc have heard nothing from it. You know the Surveyor-General's office gets out a plut and necessary descriptions for publication for nine consecutive weeks in some newspaper, and this preliminary step lias noi been taken by tho office. Tiiis delay Is not only a nuisance to the mining industry, but It means a great expense to ourselves. It meant that we liavo had to do $100 assessment work per claim In order lo hold the properly which otherwise would not be necessary if the department was up to date in its woik. "We do not know what the trouble Is. but wc certainly know something is radically wrong, and It Is working a great Injustice to a great many " Ncvartas in San .Francisco, .lames A.
