Show THE TAJC COLLECTIONS There was charged against the taxpayers tax-payers of this county for 1905, On the books of the County Treasurer, the groat sum Of $1,010,691.41. On the balancing bal-ancing Of the books on Sunday, It WBS found that of the total sum charged as laxe.s 11,400,080.69 had been paid, and only 210,Grr 7J was yet to pay. The taxation was heavier this year tlvan ever before both the aggregate value of the assessment and the tax rate having been materially Increased. Of course, this lotal includes the ItJ taxes, school district taxes, the countv tax, the State tax all. It Is a prlncelj sum. but it has been p:.!d In a prime v way. Less than one-seventh of the Whole vvas nnpHld on Sunday night. This will be considerably reduced the present week, the delinquent tax list not appearing until next Monday. Probably not above one-tenth Of the total tax perhaps even less than one-tenth, one-tenth, will remain delinquent at the sale. Thla proves a remarkably prosperous and forehanded condition among the people. They have paid this year a much gTeater tax than ever before, and have paid It up closer than ever. That the American party victory on the seventh sev-enth Instant did much to put heart Into the people, ami to cause them to respond re-spond cheerfully to the tax-gatherer's demands. Is beyond any question what ever. With a glowing city. an American city, with business freed from ecclesiastical monopoly ami dominance; with the people left free to pursue their business affairs free from the menace of being crushed by Church combines and restrictions; with the realty situation situa-tion such as to meet the most cheerful desires and anticipations, property owners took heart and responded generously gen-erously to the bettered conditions Does any man suppose that a like showing could have been made In case the old conditions had prevailed? If so. that misguided person should clear his mind from the fogs that envelope It. |
