Show WILLIAM ASHT0N GETS PROMOTION Resident Engineer of Short Lino Is Givon Jurisdiction Over "Whole Division. WILLIAM ASIITON, hitherto resident resi-dent engineer of tha Oregon Short Line, has been promoted, aa was first announced In The Tribune two weeks ago.i It was given out yesterday at the local offices of the Short Line that his Jurisdiction had been extended over the districts recently re-cently added to that of other officials of tho road. Tho bulletin announcing the promotion, dated May 1, reads as follows: "Effectivo this date, William Ashton is appointed chief engineer of the Oregon Ore-gon Short Line Railroad company, with headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. "His jurisdiction will extend over tho Union Pacific line west of Green River, Including tho Park City branch; also over the Salt Lako division of the Southern Pacific company, In charge of the maintenance of way only." It is signed by William H. Bancroft, vice-president and! general manager, and approved by Julius Kruttschnltt, director of operation and maintenance. Mr. Ashton will not take over tho direction di-rection of tho Luclri cut-off until Its completion. He spent tho end of the week with William Hood, chief engineer engi-neer of the Southern Pacific; E. Buckingham, Buck-ingham, general superintendent of "tho Short Line; Superlntendentc Scott and Assistant Superintendent Thomas Fitzgerald, Fitz-gerald, Inspecting his new territory between be-tween Ogden and Reno. Mr. Ashton has accumulated his knowledgo of railroad engineering from the ground up. and how extensive and sound that knowledge is is shown not only by his present promotion, but by the respect In which he Is held by his subordinates and tho high place ho holds at all conventions of tho American Ameri-can Railway Engineering and Maintenance Mainte-nance association, and similar meetings of the1 most capable engineers of the country. Starting as a clialnman, he has worked his way up to be chief engineer en-gineer of one of the most Important of Western roads. He is now 4 years old, and has had twenty-three years' experience In railroad engineering. From March, 1885, till February, 1900, he was with the Union Pacific. At that date he was appointed resident engineer engi-neer of the Oregon Short Line, which position he has held with great credit till this date. |
