| Show SUGAR PLANT MACHOTBHY Will Cost 200000 Not Including Boiler and Preiglit A letter was received yesterday by the secretary of the TVeber club which gives instructive data concerning the cost of buildings and machinery for the J proposed sugar factory The letter is given below but it must not be inferred that the cost of the entire plant would be covered by the 5200000 referred to The frieght from Chicago here would be considerable and besides there would be required 12 boilers of 100 horsepower horse-power each and one engine of 150 horsepower horse-power These would be needed for the generation of steam to be used in cooking cook-ing the beets and in other processes of the sugar making The motive power i of the factory would so far as prac j ticable be electric power Furthermore 11 Further-more there would have to be a site purchased and a valuable water right acquired because of the great quantities quanti-ties of water used in the processes Here is the letter from the TValborn Swenson company of Chicago Mr George H Matson Secretary Weber We-ber Club Ogden Utah Dear SirIn answer to your favor of the 5th would say that a beet sugar factory having a capacity of 350 tons of beets per day would require a building build-ing about 200 feet long by 60 feet wide two stories high and an addition to this building three stories high about SOxGO for holding the vacuum pans i and aside from this beet sheds and outbuildings out-buildings would have to be constructed construct-ed The cost of machinery complete i for a plant of this size would be in the i i I neighborhood of S200000 on the cars j here and we would require eight months in which to complete the order although shipments could commence 30 days after the order was placed so that the erection of the factory could I proceed while the rest of the machinery I machin-ery was being built Trusting this will give you the necessary information I remain yours very truly M SWENSON Manager AN IMPORTANT POINT brought out in the letter is the absolute abso-lute necessity of the people deciding before the first of December whether they want the plant or not Supposing I Suppos-ing the company incorporates Dec 1 j I and the order for machinery were j placed Jan 1 and a month is little i time enough in which to complete such I an organization and place the order i even then it would be Sept 1 before the factory could be completed The situation is just this If between now and Dec 1ten days the people of TVeber county shall raise subscriptions to the stock sufficient to complete the I 250000 required from this county then I 1 there will be a 150000 plant located at Ogden The end is worthy a supreme I su-preme effort and if it succeeds a supreme i su-preme effort must be made I Up to last night 202500 had been I subscribed to the sugar factory fund |
