Show BOND ELECTION MONDAY GREAT INTEREST MANIFESTED OVER THE PRO IIABLE RESULT On Monday next the bond election will take place and great is the interest manifested There is some opposition to the Issuance of bonds in certain quarters but the prevailing opinion is that they will pass One of the chief objections advanced is that eastern capital will take the obligations and this county will be drained of interest money which should be kept at home This position is antagonized by this argument At this time a large part of the warrants are held by eastern capitalists and i is merely a question as to whether they will be paid S percent per-cent per annum on their holdings or 5 per cent A great many seem to incline in-cline to the belief that these bonds are an additional burden upon the county As a matter of fact every dollar of the proceeds of the sale of bonds will be applied to funding the present indebtedness indebt-edness The county court will not have the handling of the money the law providing that I shall be used for the purpose set out in the cal This call provides that all of the proceeds shall be applied to the funding of the debt eave what shall be absolutely required in needed repairs on roads and bridges From careful estimates the court is of the opinion that 10000 of this sum will suffice which amount includes the completion of State road which is in avery a-very bad condition at present The workingmen are becoming interested inter-ested in this latter project inasmuch as the passage of the proposition means immediate work The county is spending now 500 or 5600 per month on charity 90 per cent of which is bestowed be-stowed upon families where the husband hus-band and father would work were opportunity op-portunity afforded By an expenditure of money for work this burden would be materially lessened The wheelmen of the city and county and those who have an interest in the southern and eastern boulevards are taking up the question of good roads I together with the farmers Unless bonds are voted there can be no money expended on repairs on these thoroughfares thorough-fares and the main lines leading to the city and travel will be greatly Impeded i I peded Both these and State road require re-quire more or less attention and without I with-out money they will soon be in a very i bad condition j conditon In connection with the matter of bonds a gentleman said yesterday The law positively provides that no further indebtedness either by Issuing bonds or warrants can be created by I this or any subsequent court until the first principal and interest have been paid in full That the saving to the county by issuing bonds in the matter of interest and on the purchase of supplies for the cpunty on a cash basis will amount annually to over 20000 That without bonds the laboring man is paid in warrants that he is compelled to sell at a discount or from 10 to 15 per cent That every person voting against I the bonds votes to close many of the schools of the county I A revision of the polling places was made Friday and the election will beheld be-held in Salt Lake at the following I places I First precinct West entrance joint building I Second precinct Old county courthouse court-house j Third precinct Old Sixteenth ward j school house j I Fourth precinct Burlington school I Fifth precinct Police headquarters I |
