Show Wesley Vennas Deplorable Condition 1 Special to THE HERALD Examiner Dispatch NEW YORK April 4 Before Judge Pratt of the supreme court and a jury yesterday was held an inquiry into the mental condition I I condi-tion of Wesley Venna When the trial 1 was called Venna the petitioner was 1 brought into the court room by an attendant attend-ant He was so lame he could scarcely walk and he had lone hair and beurd both white I as snow Venna is about seventy eight years of age Sometime in the year jgbJ he was found wandering about the t greets of New York and sent to Blooming Sale d asylum by the authorities The officers t d1 the Actors Fund of America took an in crest in his welfare and had him transferred I I tto Brunswick house a private asylum for insane persons at Amityville Long Island He has been there ever since In the Adams Express company was found a package pack-age addressed to Vennn containing 5300 in cash and 600 in bonds on Jackson county Ore This discovery showed that Venna was possessed of means and yesterdays proceedings wore brought to have a committee commit-tee of his person and property appointed by the court The doctors of the private asylum asy-lum testified Venna was insane and at times he was dangerous and the doctor was of the opinion his cure was not possible In answer to questions Venna said he was kidnapped a year and half ago by two ruffians and placed in prison It was said that in 1850 he sold out his interest in a theatre in San Francisco and invested 401 000 in a vessel in which he sot sail for the Society islands where for ten years he was not heard from He then it is said turned up in San Francisco and started east on i foot The jury found Venna insane and incapable in-capable of taking care of himself or his property A committee will be appointed I by the court for that purpose |
