Show West Bountiful , By ALICE MITCHELL 295-1 156 The fourth of July in West Bountiful had many outstanding outstand-ing activities and moments. The parade, under the direction direc-tion of Lue Child, was great. The prize for the best Family Float went to the Bruce Talbot and Harold Mann float. The best Church Float went to the West Bountiful 3rd Ward. The best Business Float was Tux Town and Maxine's, under the direction of Jim Bangertcr and Cheryl Hale. The best Organization Organi-zation Float went to the Peanut Butter Gang, under the direction direc-tion of Diane and Chad Smith. The children who garnered prizes were: April Stewart, Dennis Bronley, Sharidi Maughan, and Brighton Miller, Mil-ler, Rosane Moss. The flag-raising ceremony was well-handled and set the stage for the day of patriotism. Mayor Grant Secrist acted as Master of Ceremonies. The flag-raising and pledge of allegiance alle-giance was under the direction of Troop 91 1, with Sam Allman as Scout Master. Prayers were given by Pres. Boyd Beagley and Pres. Clarence Samuelson. The patriotic address was givenby Dr. Walter Talbot, State Supt. of Schools. He stressed that liberty and equal- ity are not impossible, but must be worked for. Much patriotic pat-riotic fervor in America has dissipated, but is must be replaced. re-placed. Be grateful for America Amer-ica and that for w hich it stands. We need to learn self-discipline. self-discipline. Aland Marsden rendered "The Star Spangled Banner." The 5000 meter run included some thirty people. Winner was David Sak, w ho ran in sixteen six-teen minutes and five seconds. In the older division Bishop Alvin Noker and Pres. Boyd Beagley came out victorious. Renee Beagley won in her age bracket. The team-roping jackpot, held at the Neil Christensen Arena, was interesting. First place went to James Handley, for heeling and Lynn Sessions for heading. Second place w inners in-ners were Kimball Blackburn and Harold Mann. Third place went to Kevin Christensen and Joe Sullivan. The summer is well on its way. There are sudden thunder thun-der and rain storms and there have been days too hot to be comfortable. The fruit canning season is here too. The strawberries, straw-berries, raspberries, and blackberries are luscious from the bushes and in the bottles, where they have been placed for the winter months to come. The cherries have been so delicious deli-cious pickers have eaten and filled themselves as well as picking the fruit for canning. The string beans are at their prime and just right for canning and bottling. Most citizens are grateful for the legacy which was passed down to them. They were taught to plant and care for gardens, trees, and bushes. They were also taught to have food in storage for the leaner times. In July there is time for picnics, pic-nics, after the working time is over. Dorothy and Don Zesiger and family spent time camping at Soapstone. Terry Badham and husband Dave report the birth of their new baby boy. They now have four boys and one girl. The David McKeans Sr. are the grandparents. The Kim McKeans have named their son Matthew Calvin. The girls and leaders of the 3rd Ward spent the I3-I4th at Midway on an outing. Leaders are Carol Cox. Regina Samuel-son. Samuel-son. Carol Zesiger. and Teri Call. On the 4th of July Gail and Harold Zesiger and girls had a cookout at the home of Mary and Mark Jensen. Addie Smith has been hospitalized, hos-pitalized, but is doing better. Happy birthday to Gail Zesiger Zesi-ger and to Jeff Bangerter. The Gary Bangerter family went camping. Paul Buys' granddaughter is in the situation where she is now home part of the time, since a doctor lives next door. She has to go to the clinic each .' day. She is the daughter of LuEtte and husband. They art residents of Brigham City. Holly is 14 years old. Grandma Jewel spends time going to LuEtte's and back. Ralph McQuiSton has been progressing well since his hospitalization. |
