Show Davis Commission Ponders Bids For Cool Computers FARM1NGTON Dais County Commissioners were asked Tuesday to consider a three-way cooling system for the new county computer room. DATA-PROCESSING supervisor su-pervisor Lamont Fowler urged the commission to support a proposal from a local air-conditioning air-conditioning firm for installation installa-tion of three five-ton coolers. He said the advantage of having three coolers is that if one of the systems breaks down, the other two remain in operation. COOLING OF the computer room, now located in the basement base-ment of the Farmington courthouse, court-house, is necessary to keep the delicate equipment operational. operation-al. High temperatures traditionally tradi-tionally shorten the life of many computer systems. Mr. Fowler said the air-conditioning air-conditioning company, which he would not name pending other incoming bids, has installed in-stalled similar cooling systems in Utah County and West Valley Val-ley City. ALSO BEING considered is a single ten-ton compressor unit. Mr. Fowler, however. shyed away from that proposal and told commissioners the three five-ton units may be more dependable. He reiterated reiter-ated that if one of the units stops working the other two will kick on automatically. Commissioners Ernest Eherhard and Harry B. Ger-lach Ger-lach decided to delay a decision deci-sion on w hich bid to accept until un-til other incoming bids can be secured and investigated. Mr. Fowler supported the move. SOME MONEY was budgeted for the computer room project. Fowler said, although he tabbed a maximum max-imum appropriation of $18,000 for the cooling system. Workers now are in the process pro-cess of completing the interior of the facility for future use. mdm |
