Show Beware Fireworks Fires CENTERV1LLE Centerville residents beware. THE CITY council has announced that it will urge the city police department to crack down on the illegal use of fireworks any device which is fired airborne or any explosive device, including firecrackers. firec-rackers. In a letter to the council signed by Douglas E. Nielsen, he advised city officials that two homes near the foothills east of Centerville were nearly burned last weekend by a fire that was started by a bottle rocket shot into the air w hich landed near the homes. "IT WAS a potentially dangerous fue which could have been disasterous," he told the council. The council agreed saying that they had seen numerous num-erous aerial rockets displayed over the weekend, any of which could have started a fire where it landed. DAVIS COUNTY Fire Chief Brent Argyle said there were at least five fireworks-related fires in Centerville over the Julv 4 weekend. The council decided to have local police clamp down on illegal use of fireworks beginning immediately immedi-ately and continuing through the July 24 holiday. |
