She has a collection of women's clothing which covers a period of one hundred years. Mrs. Hawkins became interested in old clothes when her husband became interested in old cars and joined a used car club. Mrs. Hawkins organized the wives of the members of the used car club. One of their early shows was to display women's dresses that were of the same vintage of the old cars shown in the antique car show. Mrs. Hawkins makes dresses lo fill in the period where she has been unable to locate a dress of a certain period. She makes these dresses just as they were made al the period of time to be represented. If il is a time when zippers were not used, she does nol use a zipper but uses butlons, hooks and eyes. Mrs. Hawkins says moving pictures such as the Greal Gatsby, Bonnie and Clyde and Godfather brought out interesting styles of the period depicted in the shows. She copies these models. Mrs. Hawkins, who is presidenl of her group, has displayed her clothes in many places throughout Utah. Ted Hulse is the maintenance man at the South Davis Community Care ' Center at 400 East 4of South in Bountiful. He has served ten years as a maintenance man. He tries to be kind to the patients by fixing eye glasses, television sets and many other items. He says he will do anything he can to make the patients happy. His most recent project was a carved checker set for patients pa-tients to use. The set is an enlarged version of a regular checker set. It is therefore more easily handled. He also built a desk on one patient's wheelchair so she can now write and do whatever one does at a desk. Many patients have ideas of what they would like to have done. Mr. Hulse works them out on paper and then builds whatever the patient has in mind. Ted was a carpenter before he retired and became a maintenance man at the Community Care Center. Let's all get behind the Davis High School and Kaysville Kays-ville Junior High School and support them in their annual fund raising project scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 5. |
