Show Mai AciciDueo'sai'v' On Thursday, Oct. 20, the Baha'i Community of Bountiful Boun-tiful celebrated the anniversary anniver-sary of the birth of the Bab, who, Baha'is believe, was the first of two prophets sent by God to educate mankind in this age. The celebration was held at the South Davis Community Com-munity Center and included prayers, selected readings from the writings of the Baha'i Faith, and refreshments. refresh-ments. THE BAB was born Siyyid 'Ali Muhammad in Shiraz, Iran, on Oct. 20, 1819. He took the title of the Bab, which means "Gate of God," when he declared his mission in 1844. The Bab revealed a holy book. The Bayan, in which he set forth laws and teachings, and foretold the coming of Baha'u'llah, the Prophet-Founder Prophet-Founder of the Baha'i Faith. The Bab and his disciples were persecuted by the Muslim clergy, who regarded him as a heretic. In 1850, the Bab and a young disciple were publicly martyred by a military firing squad in Tabriz. More than 20,000 of his followers were murdered through the country. THE BAB is entombed in a shrine on Mount Carmel in Haifa, Israel. Baha'i pilgrims from every corner of the globe visit the shrine at the Baha'i World Center every year. The Baha'i Faith is an independent, worldwide religon founded by Baha'u'llah, who taught the unity of God, the unity of religion and the unity of mankind. AT EACH stage of human evolution, he explained, God has sent a divine educator with teachings suited to the needs of the particular age to guide mankind's further growth.
