Show VHS: Rise, Shine Viewmont Seminary held the highest attended opening social in the seminary's history, his-tory, Thursday, Oct. 13. The traditional dinner of sloppy, joes and potato chips was served while everyone arrived and at 7:30 a dance was held for an hour. The evening was complete with the movie "True Grit." WHAT made this opening social so unusual and exciting were the events which took place the three days before the social Monday evening, all the girls who had signed up to participate had their names put in one waste basket and all the boys were put in another. Then a name from each basket was taken out and put together. From these "matches, a list was made and posted Tuesday morning for the students to find their names. Tuesday morning the seminary building build-ing was filled with students trying to find out who they were matched with. AFTER a student found out who he was matched with, he had until Tuesday after school to find out who the other per- son was. As soon as school was out, the girls were let loose to chase and catch the boy they had been paired with. When a girl succeeded in "catching" her boy, he was to make arrangements to either meet her at the social, or pick her up. Either way, they were supposed to dance at least four dances with the person they caught or were caught by. THE next two days, some exciting, funny, creative, tiring tir-ing chases took place. Girls were seen chasing boys in grocery stores, mutuals, through the boy's house, through fields, and down the street in cars. Some boys woke up in the morning to find a girl standing over them ready to say, "You're caught." Others were picked up in police cars or found girls waiting for them when they went to their doctor's appointment. ap-pointment. In all the girls had some fun times thinking of ideas and carrying them through. THE BOYS had some different points of view. Many' of them thought their parents and family had turned traitor on them when they found out the family had been in on the girl's plan. Some boys spent the night at a friend's home to make sure the girl chasing him had a hard chase. Even though they don't like to admit ad-mit it, the boys had a great, maybe even tense week watching out for the girl chasing him. At the dance Thursday night, prizes were given to the girl with the hardest and longest lon-gest chase, the boy that was caught first and other similar prizes. Then everyone was told to find the person they had been caught by or had caught so that the dance could begin. This night was not one of the regular opening socials. . It was a great way to get everyone excited about seminary and to get to know different people. ALONG with social activities, activi-ties, the Seminary has had spiritual and learning experiences also. Saturday, Oct. 15 a leadership conference was held for all zone leaders from Viewmont and neighboring junior highs. This conference is held twice a year to help the zone leaders become aware of the things they can do to make their classes have a better feeling. They attended workshops, got acquainted with other zone leaders, listened lis-tened to a talk on "Love" by Roi Walker, and had a lunch at the end. It was a successful day that lifted the spirits of the people there and gave them something to work on. AS A Seminary Council we'd like to thank everyone for the support given at our activities. |
