Show Helicopter Crew Plucks Missile From The Air HILL AFB A. helicopter crew from the 6514th Test Sauadron assigned here plucked pluck-ed an air launched cruise missile mis-sile (ALCM) from the air as it headed for a soggy end to its test flight. THE OVERWATER test was designed to examine the inertial navigation system of the Boeing built AG".l-868. The specially equipped HH-53 HH-53 helicopter snatched the mis-,$ile mis-,$ile at the end of its flight as it floated by parachute toward the Pacific Ocean off the coast of southern California. THE FLIGHT lasted ,appro: ximately three and one half hours and was the fifth in a series aimed at preparing the missile for operational use. The mission was staged from the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards AFB, Calif., and conducted over the Pacific Missile Test Range naf .V.andenfeqtg AFB and Point Mugu. THE NEARLY 21 -foot long missile was launched from under the wing of a B-52 bomber bom-ber at about noon. Pacific Standard Time.
