Show 'FOOTBALL INJURY FATAL TO SHS STUDENT, MAYOR Funeral Services Held Tuesday For Blaine Bird, Who Died Enroute To Hospital Hundreds of schoolmates and other friends and relatives joined Tuesday in paying tribute to the life of Blaine Bird, high school student body mayor and football star, who was fatally injured in a football game on Friday of last week, at the local campus. Exact cause of death was not determined, but it was believed he died of a hemorrhage suffered during the last plays of the game. After the whistle blew, he walked from the field with ' two team members, remarking to them that his head ached. He collapsed upon reaching the dressing room and died enroute to the hospital, never regaining consciousness. The funeral services were held in the Fourth ward chapel, under direction of Howard Maycock, bishop of the First ward. Members Mem-bers of the high school athletic club acted as pallbearers. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery, : under direction of A. Y. Wheeler and Son mortuary. Special floral tributes were sent to the services by the Cypress high school, Bingham high school, Pleasant Grove, Lincoln, Payson, Spanish Fork and Springville high schools. Blaine was born in Springville, April 29, 1930, a son of Arvil and Doris Lambert Bird. He attended grade school at the Jefferson, and in. the ninth grade was elected Junior high school presidents He was mayor of the high school stu- dent body, having been elected to the position last year, and was president-elect of the basketball team and the high school athletic club. " He was a straight "A" student stu-dent and would have graduated next spring. Active in church work in the First ward, he was secretary of the priests quorum. He is survived by his parents and a sister and three brothers, Mrs. Ray Clark, Don, Jon and Brent Bird, Springville; also grandparents, Mrs. May Bird, Springville, and Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Lambert, St. George. |
