Show RADICALS DOMINATE. Tho investigations of a New York state legislative commission have served to establish a settled conviction that the Pauid School of Social Science was the headquarters for activities which approached perilously near the line of open treason. It was the center cen-ter of the ultraradical socialists whoso conduct was such as to cause socialists who placed country above party to drop their connection with the organization, notably Charles Edward Bussell, and men of his kind. The split in the party may bo traced directly to tho violent spirits within the organization. Now comes Dr. George D. ITerron in flat and positive repudiation of the Eand school, declaring that ho cannot further support what is frankly a pro-Gierman pro-Gierman and Bolshevist outfit, llerron married a daughter of the founder of the school, Mrs. Caroline Rand, formerly former-ly of Burlington, Iowa. Mrs. Rand died some years ago; tho school she endowed en-dowed was, until the outbreak of the war, a school for the- promulgation of socialistic doctrine. Latterly it has teen dominated by radicals of extreme typo, so extreme that even Horron is forced to see what ho can do to withdraw with-draw the support the institution ro-ceives ro-ceives through the bequest of Mrs. Rand. Dr. llerron has been known as somewhat some-what liberal in his views, but the fex-tremism fex-tremism of tho Rand doctrinaires and propagandists is evidently too much for him to contemplate and profess Americanism. Ameri-canism. Hence his emphatic "renunciation "renun-ciation and denunciation " of the Eand trouble-makers, as ho terms them. |
