Show Hospital committee studies other resorts The Kimball Junction hospital committee will study other resorts and will conduct a series of interviews to complete its work in 1985 on a hospital plan. The committee, made up of Summit County residents and Holy Cross officers, is officially known as the Summit County Health Services Advisory Committee. The committee's com-mittee's job is to assess health needs in the county and to decide what services would be offered at a hospital that Holy Cross plans to build at Kimball Junction, at the intersection of Utah Highway 224 and Interstate 80. Holy Cross staffers recently reported to the committee after traveling to Vail, said Holy Cross Executive Vice-President Kenneth Rock. Rock, a member of the committee, said the Vail Valley Medical Center offers a range of specialized medical services which the Kimball hospital would aim for also. The services would include emergency care, orthopedic, birthing birth-ing and short-stay bed care. The tourist population creates a need for these specialties, he said, but they will also be supplied to permanent residents. Holy Cross plans to study other recreational areas with a similar population mix. Two other trips are planned, possibly to Sun Valley and an area in California, said Rock. Early in 1985, he added, staffers plan to interview a cross-section of community leaders in Summit County. The hospital committee has previously studied needs assess- ments and surveys done in the county. On Jan. 1, Utah becomes the first state to completely deregulate the expansion of and construction of health-care facilities. The hospital will not be asked to provide a certain number of beds, as required under old law. Rock could not say how - many beds are planned for the Kimball Junction facility. "But it will be more than adequate," he said. Hospital plans will be submitted to J Summit County's planning and health departments. Rock said the committee, which has had eight meetings, will complete a plan of service by the fall of 1985. Holy Cross will then be ready to hire an architect. The hospital should be built a couple of years after that. The committee's next meeting will be held in February. |
