Show number 0 estimates for guttering and sewer work are allowed and deputation from county fair association Is received from tuesdays standard the city fathers met in regular session last evening after a period of two weeks and transacted a large amount of business among the matters brought becore the body the water question was conspicuous by its absence there were a number 0 estimates for curbing and guttering sidewalks and sewer work allowed which served to introduce a great deal of discus sion to the proper mode vt procedure in handling these matters the roll call showed chambers davidean Da paine randall moyes nye and emmett as being present in the absence of president carr F R chambers was elected president pro tem tha reading of thae minutes was dispensed with on account of the large accumulation of business the first matter brought before the body was the report of the claims committee who recommended payment of claims amounting to which were allowed on motion of mr randall th sidewalk committee reported favorably on the petition of F J kiesel for a cement sidewalk on both sides of wall avenue between and street on motion of mr randall the report was adopted and of intention ordered published at this juncture in the proceedings the president announced that a committee was hi waiting to speak before the body and that business would be suspended to hear them the committe consisted of van der avues covan of the weber county ealr association mr van der was the first speaker and stated that it was the desire to hold a fair here this year that the association was lacking in funds and had selected them as a committee to see it tho city would do in the way of aiding them financially he stated that the county commissioners had practically prom laed them and in ahls opinion the city should do the same mr etherington said he thought that not to have a lair this year would bo a step backward he also stated that many business men of ogden owned stock in the association that they were behind when they started in that they purchased the fair grounds property and that they were not able to keep up their subscriptions as some who had promised them money bad tailed to pay up y he further stated that a number of improvements were found necessary and that the income did not prove sufficient to liquidate the debts Hs claimed that the fair would benefit the city by bringing people here on of mr randall the matter was referred to the finance com mattso the health inspectors report tor the month of july showed but two cases of contagion they being scarlet fever one death from the same disease was reported atty engineer submitted a substitute plat tor the proposed new street to be opened south of street recommending the construction of the same as a continuance of pini cocks lane he stated that the railroad people were anxious to begin work and asked for the appointment of a special com cittee to visit the site and proceed with the securing of the right of way ho also stated that thirtieth street would soon be impassable it appears that the same question was brought up at the previous meet ing of the council and at that time tho project was referred to the street committee speaking tor that committee mr williams said that they were not yot ready to report but that they would 1 b ready to report at the next meet ing after this statement the question submitted by the city engineer was filed abs tbs matter of allowing estimates tor curbing and guttering grading the Bl dewalk and sewer was then taken up and the following were allowed under a suspension of the rules in each case first partial estimate tor extension no 3 to curbing and guttering district no 1 which Is street from monroe to jackson avenue due J B oneail ONe lIl 1950 estimate for grading street from wall to madison avenue 1 due jones and wryght second partial estimate curbing and guttering districts 7 and S which Is grant avenue from to street which is entirely completed also wark f on city hall square now due J P oneall ONel ll first partial estimate for curbing and guttering district no 6 which is mad ison avenue from to aoth street due J P oneill first partial estimate curbing and guttering district no 13 which Is street from washington to jefferson avenues due J P oneall ONel ll estimate tor curbing and guttering districts no 16 19 and 21 which is |
