Johnson, of this city, escaped a litl)-' ing'with a liorsewhip because Police Court Magistrate Manning was umfjjle to find anyone with sufficient courage cour-age to administer the punishment Johnson was arrested for beating,, a ! horse. He was sentenced to pay a fine of 25 and receive twenty-five lashes with the snme whip he had used on the horse. ' Every policeman on the 1 local force refused to cany out the (court's order, so Johnson was released re-leased upon payment of the fine. |
