Show UTAH LEGISLATURE CONVENES IN NEW CAPITOL AND BOTH HOUSES ARE ORGANIZED (Special to Standard.) Sail Lake, Jan. 8. At noon today, in the halls of the capitol. the third Democratic Dem-ocratic legislature of Utah was organized organ-ized Former Clerk I. H. Diehl called the house to order. Secretary of Si ate Harden Benniou presented the list of those certified as elected, and called the roll Representatives W W. Jones of Wellsvllle and Lewis W Curry of Vernal Ver-nal were recorded absent on account of sickness Justice .McCarthy administered ih oaths of office. Prayer, by Alma Greenwood of American Fork. Nominations for speaker were then in order and F. B. Hammond of Moab named by Frank Tolton of Beaver, The nomination was seconded b- Br Grace Stratton-Airey of Salt Lake on condition that Mr. Tolton would be for prohibition, public utilities, workmen's compensation and the other measuro promised in the Democratic platform A motion was made by J. W. McKin-ney McKin-ney of Salt Lake that Tolton be declared de-clared elected by acclamation. Car rled. P B Hammond and Elizabeth T. Hayward were named a committee to escort the speaker to the chair The oath of office was administeted to the speaker by Justice McCarty. Speaker Tolton, on taking the chair, said he appreciated the honor of pre siding and realized the responsibility of the position He would do his utmost to proH worthy of the confidence confi-dence it-posed in him He would break away irom old convention- iBd instead ot placing new garments on old models, would pass new measures.
