Show Lawrence J, Miller succumbs, final rites Tuesday Lawrence James Miller 77, died in the veterans hospital in Salt Lake City on Friday from natural causes following an illness of several weeks. Funeral Services were held for him Tuesday at 1 p. m. in the Parowan First-Second Ward chapel, with Bishop Budd Munford conducting. Mr. Miller was born in Parowan Par-owan May 15, 1893, a son of James M. and Elizabeth Ellen El-len Taylor Miller and resided here most of his life.. He was a member of the first group of men from Parowan to volunteer vol-unteer for service in World War I. Following the war he worked as an aide in the Let-terman Let-terman Army hospital in San Francisco for a time. On May 17, 1947 he married mar-ried Varien D. Waldron Becker Beck-er in Nevada, and they later came to Parowan to live. She died Sept. 2, 1953." He worked' for CSU caring for the school purebred sheep 'flock for a few years. Member of the LDS Church he has spent the past several years, serving as an- ordinance worker in the St. George LDS , Temple, and was laboring at 5 the temple when his health failed. He is survived by one bro- ther, Robert Taylor Miller, ' Parowan and the following nephews and nieces: James M. Miller and Mrs. Isaac (Betty) - Nelson, Cedar City; Mrs. June ' M. Decker, Parowan Mrs. Mor-' Mor-' ris (Audrey) Rowley and Mrs. 1 James P. (Ellen) Jones, Salt Lake City. Speakers for the services were Pres. G. 'Morris Rowley of ; Murray; Pres. Milton T2arl of the St. George Temple presidency, presi-dency, with remarks by Bish-' op Munford. Attending the services were President and Mrs. Rudger Atkin of the St. George Temple. The family prayer was by James M. Miller, the invocation invoca-tion was by Isaac Nelson, the benediction was by James T. Jones, and the grave in the Parowan City cemetery was dedicated by R. Taylor Miller, only brother of the deceased. Mrs. Jackie Robinson was at the organ for prelude and postlude music. Musical numbers num-bers included the opening and closing songs, "Oh, My Father", Fath-er", and "Brightly Beams Our Father's Mercy" by a male quartet and a cello solo played play-ed by Douglas Rowley, accompanied ac-companied by his mother, Mrs. Audrey M. Rowley. Members of the quartet were Robert Rowley, Claude Orton, Bruce Decker and Howard Ward, accompanied ac-companied by Itha Mortensen. Pallbearers were Gary Miller, Mil-ler, Robert L. Jenson, Douglas Rowley, James M. Miller, Steven Ste-ven Jenson, Ralph S. Orton and Robert Ward Miller. The flowers were under the direction direc-tion of the First Ward Relief Society. |
