There is never a! question about it. lie drags: himself from the warm covers,! dresses, goes out, gets his car,; and he is away on his journey, battling the elements, and fight-ing sleep in order that Mrs. John Smith may live and care for her home and children. ' Fifty years of such work will not make a Bingham doctor rich yet he has the knowledge that he has given a lifetime to the service of mankind, the feeling that he has returned health and happiness to many of the homes of the people of this great Cop-per camp. Even their patients do not ap-preciate their worth. Let's discontinue the practise of knocking the doctors of Bing-ham. They can never be repaid for the service they have given us. EDITORIAL WHY KNOCK THE DOCTOR? Why criticise the doctor? Un-heralded, unsung, these faithful followers of human ills undergo more genuine hardships in a year than fall to the lot of most people in a lifetime. A few days ago the paltry sal- - ary of the county physician was spoken of as inadequate. It if true, yet he never regards his hardships, his sufferings, "his never-endin-g labors for a mere pittance as heroism. It is just a matter of plain duty with him, practically the fulfillment of the code of ethics when he dedicat-ed his life to the alleviation of sickness and suffering. Take any doctor in Bingham to-da- y. Some people would not like them to express an opinion, even in athletics, yet they are bigger un-crowned heroes thai" many Bing hamites will ever realize. . Each team has won a game from the other. The fifst quarter resulted in a 5 to 2 count for the Miners, but the Salt Btikers started their long shot game, and at the half way post the count read: Wes-tern Opticals 16, Utah Coppers 7. The second half was filled with baskets and spills, both being about even, although the home guard threatened at times. A tieoff may be arranged, but the Western Opticals claim they want to have a say in the offi-ciating. PREMONITION SAVE ONE LIFE AT CASTLE GATE John Bernard, popular frater-nal member of several lodges of Castlegate was the only miner of the ill-fat- ed shift who did not go into the No. 2 Mine of the Utah Fuel Co. at Castlegate on March 8th. In a recent interview with our representative Mr. Ber nard spoke of getting up at the usual hour with the intention of going to work, altho some of the dailies said he had overslept. "Oh, no, sir, I did not sleep in, but I surely had a hunch that something wrong was going to happen. Confronting myself with the fact the mine only worked two days a week, I fixed up my luncli ready to go to work, but impulse was so strong I was over ruled and stayed at home, and was horrified a little later to learn that all my fellow work-ers who had gone to work had been blown to eternity." Mr. Bernard assisted in identifying and removing 111 bodios of liis former He was at one time a resident of Bingham, having worked with the Utah-CopiK- -r and the Highland Boy Mining Co. and is respected here.
