Show FOOTBALL PUYERS They Are BanqueteH by U. of U. Freshmen in Men's Gymnasium. Seated at an attractive table. which formed a giant lettor "rj," nearly 300 freshmen of tho University of Utah and their guests of honor, tho members of tho football squad, enjoyed a highly successful suc-cessful annual banquet In tho men's gymnasium last evening. Tho affair was under the patronagu of President and Mrs. J. T. Kingsbury. Tho gridiron hcroc3 wore seated at tho conler of tho "U," whero tho admiring eyes of tho freshmen might gazo upon them. Dr. and Mrs. Kingsbury also occupied oc-cupied places of honor and next in order came the speakers and tho class officers. of-ficers. The decorations were unusually attractive. at-tractive. Tho class colors, gold and green, were used profusely. Hung from the colling In tho center of tho room whs a giant football In the claBa colors and with the class numerals painted upon It. Prom Uils hundreds of streamers were druped to tho railings of the running run-ning track In the upper part of tho big gymnasium. At each plato was a pretty folder, which did effectlvo duty as placo card, toast programmo and dance programme. Ralph AValdron acted as toastmaster. Tho following wore tho speakers: ''To tho Class." Dr. J. T. Kingsbury; "Freshman "Fresh-man Spirit," W. L, Gardner, class president; presi-dent; Our Heroes." Miss Rowona Rogers; Rog-ers; "Side-Lino Thrills," Charle3 Merrill; Mer-rill; "Rounding Out thi Infants," Thom-na Thom-na Fltzpatrlck, freshmen coach; "Transitory "Transi-tory Glory," Harvey Ward; "How It Fools to Be a Champion," Vadal Peterson; Peter-son; "Why Wo Don't Play Football." Martha Martlneau; "Troubles of a Manager," Man-ager," Gcorgo SHatt; "Whon It's Tlmo to Kick," Lowell Romney; "Next Tear's Team," Fred Bennlon, varsity coach. Tho gymnasium was mado more attractive at-tractive by numerous delightfully cosy cornerx, where thoso who did not dance and thoso who wished to rest could spend the later hours of tho evening. Dancing followed tho banquot and tho merriment continued until a lato hour. |
