M. Chovalloy did this in an informal statoment to Myron T. Herrick, the United States embassador, as follows: "You know, possibly, what is the feeling and responsible opinion in this country toward yourself, your president presi-dent and tho United 8tatos. Nothing in the world can prevail against it. "As regards commorcial Interests, the now tariff, although it has needed and still needs friendly discission, has not produced any bad effects on tho commorcial com-morcial relations of tho United Statos and France. Although the United States sells much more to Franco than it buys, tho exportations from France to tho United States havo grown by nearly 100 por cont in tho last fivo years and tho imports by 60 por cent, No market is moro worthy of attention atten-tion from the United Statos than tho French markot, and this is recipro- " Above all, It must be borne in mind that unreasonable customs regulations regu-lations will only serve the commorcial rivals of tho two countries.
