For the first tlmo in six yoara tho annual ball of tho Salt Lako Firemen's Relief association, which was held in tho Auditorium last night, was interrupted by a fire call. But the dance was not stopped. Chief W. H. Bywater and tho crew of No. 1 motor and No. 0 hose wagon rushed from the hall In answer to the summons, which camo from 120S Iola avenue. Tho call came at 11:15 o'clock and In less than an hour tho men had extinguished tho blaze, which was of minor importance, and returned to tho hall Thoy arrived just In timo for tho last danccH. Tho big dance was a success In everyway, every-way, despite tho fire. About 2500 persona per-sona attended and the guests, young and old. seemed to have tho tlmo of tehlr lives. Unique nome3 were given to the dances, which required considerable explanation ex-planation from the firemen, but did not detract from the pleasure of the dances. In addition to the dance programme thcro was an excellent flro drill bv sixteen six-teen picked men of the department, which was declared the finest ever seen In Salt Like City. There also were other oth-er features that were Interesting. Ono that caused amusement was when two of tho firemen entered tho hall with cans of what appeared to be gasoline on their backs and small pieces of hose, with which they appeared to sprlnklo such articles ar-ticles as thoy found in the hall that woro not already Inflammable. From a financial standpoint, the dance will mean an addition of about $1000 to tho funds of tho association. |
