Show SURVEY WORK DONE IN ALASKA REGION Field Operations Being Prosecuted to Collect Public Infonna-' tion. Tho United States government department de-partment of geological survey is doing a great work m Alaska, by making surveys sur-veys for water power aud preparing information in-formation showing how una where this power may bo dovoloped, according to C. E. Ellsworth, district engineer ot tbo southern Alaska district. On his waj' to Washington, where he will spend the winter, Mr. Ellsworth stopped off in Salt Lako yestorday, registering at the Hotel Utah. Ho plnns to leave for the cast today. Mr. Ellsworth yestorday morning paid a visit to tho local offices of tho geological geo-logical survev, whoro he renowed ac- ?uaintanco -until a number of his old riends and discussed the Alaska -work. Speaking of his own activities, ho said: For the last six years vro have heen doing field work in tho interior inte-rior of Alaska, in what is known as the Yukon Tanana region. Recently, Recent-ly, however, our work has been confined con-fined to the southwestern part, near Valdez, which wo make our field headouarters. Tho latter country, while not boing sottled rapidly, is rich in gold and copper deposits, yet undeveloped. Thero is abundant water power supply, nnd although the government 13 making no effort to develop this faupply. wo are doing field work so that 'the public ma' havo general information regarding it. |
