Show Elwyn Hadley Cheats Death In Power Line Mishap Elwyn Hadley, lineman for the Southern Utah Power Co. at Enterprise, En-terprise, was hit with from 10,000 to 12.000 volts of electricity at that city early this week and is now reported in fair condition at the Iron County hospital. Dr. Rymal Williams, attending physician, reported late last night that Mr. Hadley, who miraculously mir-aculously escaped death, was progressing satisfactorily at the hospital and had reached a condition con-dition of fair following earlier reports of being serious. .According to Dr. Williams, Mr. Hadley had suffered severe burns of the chest, neck, hands, arms and legs as well as having an image of his glasses imprinted on his temples from the electrical electri-cal charge. Mr. Hadley was repairing a high voltage line when the accident acci-dent occurred and if it had not been for his fast thinking partner, part-ner, Kenneth Hunt, who shut off the power from the high voltage wire within a matter of a second sec-ond or two, it would have been too late. According to the reports Mr. Hunt had gone part way up the pole prior to the accident and was thus In a position to turn off the "juice" within a few seconds. sec-onds. It is assumed that If Mr. Hunt had not been partly up the nole it would have been too late to have saved Mr. Hadley's life-After life-After Mr. Hunt had turned off the power he then climbed the pole, which was still active with secondary electricity of approximately approx-imately 220 volts, and held Mr. Hadley from making other contacts con-tacts until assistance came to lower him from the utility pole. It is expected that Mr. Hadley Had-ley will recover satisfactorily from the shock, although he will be in a weakened state for the next two or three weeks. |
