Show Softball League Race Can Go Three Ways TEAM STANDINGS Columbia 7 1 .875 Iron Mt 5 1 .833 Des. All indications would point to the postponed game between Columbia and Desert Mound as the decisive game of the half. If Desert Mound could tip the Columbia crew it would give both of these teams two losses and would force Iron Mountain into the league lead. However, Iron Mountain has several more games to play and an upset victor vic-tor over them could easily put the league into a three-way ie. There is no disputing the advantage advan-tage of Columbia, that team having already played eight of 10 games in the first half, but the strong Mound team could snuff that advantage very easily. Only three games were played during the last week, with three of the mines teams, Columbia, Utah Construction and Desert Mound posting wins over El Rey, Bradshaw and Parowan respectively. respec-tively. Iron Mountain was idle during the week with Wednesday Wednes-day evening's games postponed because of rain. Wednesday's schedule would have pitted El Rey against Iron Mountain and Bradshaw against Desert Mound. The domination of the league by the four mine teams was emphasized em-phasized again this week when Columbia clobbered El Rey 12 to 2 and Desert Mound lacked one run of doing the same thing to Parowan in posting a 11 to 2 win. Utah Construction, who has lost three games in the league thus far, is still one of the top contenders and it is pointed out i that the Construction losses have all been at the hands of the other mine teams, with El Rey, Brayshaw and Parowan fighting for the cellar positions only. Utah Construction in posting a win in the only other game of the week edged out a strong-hearted strong-hearted Bradshaw team 8 to 5. The following week's games, that can be found on the recreation recrea-tion area schedule above, will complete the first half with the exception of some postponed games. According to Morgan Slack, league president, it is hoped that these games can be played in the very near future and the first half brought to a close as soon as possible. Games in the second half will start without with-out any delay regardless of the first, half situation, he stated, and the schedule will continue as outlined. |
