Show Rotarians Hold First Half Honors; Drop 2 of 3 Losses to Cellar Team TEAM STANDINGS Rotary 6 3 .667 Elks 5 4 .556 Lions 4 5 .444 Kiwanis 3 6 .333 The Rotary team although suffering suf-fering two losses during the past week ended up as first half champions in the Cedar City Little Lit-tle League, one game ahead of the Elks Rulers. In the first loss of the week for the Rangers the Lion Tamers came in for a win, defeating the league leaders by a score of 5 to 3. One of the tightest and best played games of the season saw the Lions barely edge out the Rotarians in a tight game that saw both teams perform excellently excel-lently in the field and the hitting hit-ting reduced to a minimum. The second defeat for the Rotary Ro-tary Rangers came at the hands of the cellar burdened Kiwanis Kubs in a 12 to 8 game marked by a large number of hits. The Kiwanis nine took an early 6 to 3 lead in the first two innings but relinquished that lead in the fourth when the Rotary scored four runs to lead 7 to 6. The Kubs retaliated In the fifth with four runs of their own and held out for the next two frames to score the victory. Line score Is as follows: Rotary 2 14 0 10 8 Kiwanis 3 3 0 4 2 x 12 In the only other game of the week the Elks Rulers made it a definite second place post for the team by defeating the Lion Tamers Tam-ers in a game which determined deter-mined the second and third place standings. In the early innings the lead see-sawed back and frth. However, in the fourth inning inn-ing the Elks buckled down to business and held the Lions scoreless in the last three frames while scoring three runs of their ' own to win the battle 5 to 3. Line score is as follows: Elks 1 0 1 3 0 0 5 Lions 0 2 1 0 0 0 3 Following Friday evening's games and the completion of the first half the Little Leaguers will take a 10-day vacation, returning to the field to continue play on July 20. The Rotarians, first half winners win-ners are guaranteed at least a play-off for the league championship. |
