Show Stake Conference Held Here Sunday, May 21st Evening Service Held In Connection With College Baccalaureate Regular quarterly conference of the St. George stake was held here Sunday with Pres. Heber J. Grant, Apostle Rudgar Clawson, Robert L. Judd and Dr. Frank L. West as official visitors. This is the annual stake priesthood conference. con-ference. A priesthood session was held at 8 a.m. in the south ward chapel, with a gratifying attendance attend-ance reported from each ward of the stake. Counselor Orval Haf.-n, h.-ad of priesthood work in the stake, reported re-ported the work projects of the various priesthood quorums of the slake, which included building, missionary fund, adobes, gardening, garden-ing, molasses growing, recreation, livestock raising, repair of the stake Tabernacle, buildini' of the slake Temple hou-e and warehouse. ware-house. Responsibilities of tho.-e who hold the priesthood was the theme treated by Clair Terry, who emphasized the privileges extended extend-ed through and unto those who hold the priesthood, urging all to benefit by their opportunities in this field. Robert L. Judd talked on church leadership throughout the world and on the objectives of the welfare wel-fare program, emphasizing several points of value in this program throughout all the walks of life. Apostle Rudgar Clawson read the hymn, "O, My Father" discussing dis-cussing the same. President Grant eulogized the life of Eliza R. Snow, Mormon poetess and related re-lated many incidents of his life, concluding by singing "My Home". The closing prayer was by W. W. Cannon. Afternoon Meeting The Enterprise choir again furnished fur-nished the singing for the afternoon after-noon services including "Plow Firm A Foundation", "What Was Witnessed In the Heavens", a brass quartet, "Whispering Hope", and two anthems. Prayers were by Keith McArthur and Clayton Sullivan, two Aaronic priesthood members, the latter from the Leeds ward. Aaronic priesthood members gave the following addresses: Stanley Hunt, Enterprise, "How Quorum Activities Develop the Members"; "Why I Prize and Honor My Priesthood Calling"; Ravell Leavitt, Gunlock; "Responsibility "Respon-sibility of Those Who Hold Aaronic Aaro-nic Priesthood" Eldon Gubler, Tvins ward. Counselor Hafen presented the general and stake authorities for sustaining, read the list of missionaries mis-sionaries from St. George stake, announcing their fields of labor. President Grant then delivered a lengthy address exhorting the people to live their religion and invoking the blessings of the Lord upon them. Closing remarks were made by Pres. W. O. Bent-ley, Bent-ley, who invited President Grant to establish his home in St. George and thanked him and Apostle Clawson for their visit at this conference. |
