Show Hurricane Mrs. Katharine Larson Itojmrtcr Maurice Nuttnll's Gospel message class of the south ward Sunday school presented themselves, under un-der his direction Monday night in a well-worked-up minstrel show, at the gymnasium. The singing "darkies" were accompanied by Mrs. Ora Reeve on the piano. Wit was splashed from end to end by Harvard Hinton, Mark Imlay, Jack Stratton, Que Bradshaw, Dan Conger and Garth and Lloyd Sandberg. In addition to the solos sung by the End men, vocal numbers num-bers wore given by Enid and Elaine Bradshaw and Beulah Barber. Bar-ber. Helen Gates added much to the entertainment with two tap dancos. Mr. and Mrs. George Stevens entertained the p"mployecs of the Stevens garage Wednesday evening even-ing at the Hurricane Cafe, where a chicken dinner was served in their honor. The guests included Mr. and Mrs. Grant Wright, Mrs. Irma . Stevens, Jack Phoenix, Dwight Hinton, Homer Isom, Ward Wright, Miss Donna Wilson and Woodruff Ashton. Miss Jean Kendall spent the week-end at Nophi with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James A. Kendall. Mr. and Mrs. Golden Taylor accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Smith to Cedar City Wednesday evening. Mr. Smith, who is a fireman on the Union Pacific, was returning to his job at Lyndyll after a week spent here with Mrs. Smith and his daughters. A bridal shower in honor of Miss Aleath Dalton was given at the Claudius Hirschi home Wednesday Wed-nesday night by Dorothy Hirschi, Vaun Sanders and Enid and Elaine Bradshaw. A surprise party and friendship friend-ship shower was tendered Mrs. Glen Williams Wednesday night at her home. Twenty friends gathered to enjoy an evening of visiting. The affair was in charge of Mrs. Rap Naegle and Mrs. Tom Stanworth. The south ward Sunday school and M.I.A. were reorganized on Sunday, with the following new officers sustained: Sunday school, Owen Burgener, superintendent; Lafayette Staheli and Carroll Heatow, assistants. Y.M.I.A.-Wal ter S. Brooks, president; Merrill Fawson and Keith Toblcr, counselors. coun-selors. Young women's organization, organiza-tion, Mrs. Marie Stanworth, president, presi-dent, assisted by Mrs. Margaret Nuttall and Mrs. Marjorie Snow. The Misses La Prole Isom, Shirley Spendlove, Wealthy Campbell Camp-bell and Claudia Beames spent a day at Las Vegas last week. Miss Hazel Jepson left Thursday Thurs-day for Farmington, where she has employment. Miss Genevieve Isom is spending spend-ing the week at Cedar City. She is the guest of her sister, Mrs. John Lundell. The outgoing north ward bishopric was given a farewell party Wednesday night in the stake recreation hall by the north ward members, under the direction direc-tion of the new bishop, Allan J. Stout. A short program was given, at which Bp. Frank Johnson and his two counselors, Lafayette Hall and Wilford Leany, spoke. The remainder of the time was given over to dancing. Mrs. Rhea Fawcett visited during dur-ing the past week at Kanab with hor sister and brother-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Albert Hutchings. Mrs. Paul Thurston and family of Overton, are here for the summer sum-mer with Mrs. Thurston's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Woodbury. Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Sandberg Sand-berg attended the Baccalaureate service Sunday night at St. George. Their daughter, Elaine, is a member of the Dixie college graduating class. Mr. and Mrs. Harold H. Otto of Joliet, 111. and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Cannon of Tremonton, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Webb on Sunday. The Ottos and Cannons are on their way to the San Francisco fair. Mrs. Otto was the former Miss Afton Bryner, of St. George. The Misses Dense Dalton, Nor-da Nor-da Gibson and Norene Stratton and Ursel Hall returned Saturday from Cedar City, where they have spent the winter attending the B.A.C. The marriage of Miss Aleath Dalton and Gerald K. Gifford was solemnized Tuesday, May 23, at the St. George Temple, where Pres. Harold S. Snow officiated. The bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Dalton, honored the young couple at their home the same evening, where a wedding reception recep-tion was held. The young couple left later in the week for Los Angeles, where they will make their home. The Hurricane Co-operative Mercantile association held their annual "Strawberry Feast" Tuesday Tues-day evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Woodbury, where John Humphries was master of ceremonies. It was reported by LaVar Hinton, manager, that the average business done monthly at the store during the past year, amounted'to $3,000. Mrs. Tennessee S. Denning of Ogden visited from Sunday over Saturday, with her mother, Mrs. Alice S. Spendlove. |
