Show DR. RUIZ' LAST ME SSAGE. Written on Back of a Chair Before He Was Killed By Spaniards. New York, April 25. The state department de-partment at Washington has notified Mrs. Rita L. Ruiz, widow of Dr. Rica Ri-ca rdo Ruiz, who was murdered' in prison at Guanabacao, Cuba, while a captive of the Spaniards, that the chair on which he wrote hia last message would be forwarded to her. Thi chair came Into the possession of General Fitzhugh Lee soon after the murder of Dr. Ruiz, which occurred Feb. 4, 1S96. General Lee kept it until he left Havana two years ago, when he gave it to the British vice consul, Mr. Jerome, who kept it until General Lee's return to Havana after the war. At the request of Mrs. Ruiz, he has forwarded for-warded it to Washington. The lt-iseage, which was written on tihe back of this c-hair by Dr. Ruiz, who dipped his nails in his own blood, read.? : "Mercedes, Mine, Evangeline. Ricar-dito, Ricar-dito, goodby.
