Show j FATAL LABOR MOT. One Man is Killed and Several Injured In-jured in Chicago. Chicago, April 25. In a labor riot tonight to-night at Racine and Wellington avenues, Peter Miller was shot through the head and killed and six -other men were more or less injured. Miller, together : with John McGuire, William Pottger, Louis Jackiske and James Gibbons, all of them union printers, print-ers, waylaid three .non-union men who had taken their places in thf Baker-Saw-ter Printing company's office, and attacked at-tacked them. H. . C. Baster, the company's com-pany's superintendent, who was one of the men attackpd.opened fire on the assailants as-sailants with a revolver. . Miller was instantly in-stantly killecj'and McGuire was shot twice and badly hurt. ' , Policemen quickly surrounded the fighting fight-ing men and arrested all except Gibbons, who escaped. Two of the -union men wore brass knuckles and the others carried car-ried ClubS. : After the- arrest of the combatants, CChief Kipley expressed the opinion that Buster was justiiied in shooting. Tho chief declared .that these assaults upon non-union men must stop, and he Issded orders demanding greater energy in arresting ar-resting persons -guilty of such offenses. |
