Show New tour group organized for natural sciences Fourteen tours will originate origin-ate from Cedar City as the result re-sult of a new educational organization or-ganization recently Incorporated Incorpor-ated In Utah that will provide pro-vide out-of-doors instruction In natural history. Lawrence C. Cooper, a faculty facul-ty member at Southern Utah i State College and a founding direction of the firm, Natural History, Inc., made the an- j nounoement in Cedar City this week. Natural History, Inc., was formed by a group of prominent promin-ent educators as part of a growing trend toward "on-the-ground" field study and educational edu-cational tours by students, teachers, professional people, I and others interested in the imiuiai sciences. Natural History, Inc. will specialize in directed nature tours of the Colorado Plateau region, which includes large ! parts of the Four Corner States 1 of Utah, Colorado, Arizona and ! New Mexico. As geologists are aware, the Colorado Plateau and its borderlands exhibit the greatest variety and concentration con-centration of rock formations, geologic structures and ero-sional ero-sional forms to be found in any area of comparable size on earth. In addition to its remarkable geologic phenomena, the region re-gion is a comprehensive outdoor out-door textbook of ecology, botany, bo-tany, zoology and anthropology, anthropolo-gy, archaeology. Tours will be directed by college-trained naturalists having specialized knowledge of their particular tour area. The firm plans a national advertising ad-vertising campaign, and so far as known it is the only tour agency featuring the outstanding outstand-ing educational aspects of the Colorado Plateau region. Among the founding directors direc-tors of Natural History, Inc. are a number of well-known college and university special-ists special-ists on the Colorado Plateau region, including the following: follow-ing: Donald L. Baaro- Wn'tc R. Buss; Laurence C. Cooper; Walter P. Cottam; Armarirt J Bardley; Kenneth Hamblin; Blair Maxfield; and William Lee Stokes. Also associated with the group are W. Eugene Hansen, attorney, and Ward ( J. Roylance, who is the firm's executive director. i |
