Show Letter to the Editor: Iron County Record, Dear Editor: I have been an ardent sports fan all my life and have been a close follower of high school sports for over 20 years. At the first basketball game of our present season, I was awed at the admission price of $1.50 for adults. Being Be-ing the "head of the family" fami-ly" it cost me $7.25 (four adults, ad-ults, one college and one H. S. student) for the first game. The following night it cost me $5.75 (one less adult). If I had not had "out of town" guests, I would not have stayed for the first game, nor would I have returned, as I did, the following night. May I remind you too, these were only practice prac-tice games. I have discussed this assi-nine assi-nine $1.50 price extensively and have yet to find anyone who agrees the price was fair. The price was exhorbitant and I'm sure our school lost money as a result of this poor judgment judg-ment by someone. The admission ad-mission price charged by our surrounding schools was and in order to eat after a game, or go without. They should positively be treated to a meal after certain "road games", at , the expense of the school. For the schools not to do this is being cheap and "biting the hand that feeds them!" Please, let's not cheat these players of meals they deserve and earn, and let's not fleece the fans; remember, many of the fans are the parents and families of the team. The parents already have a lot invested in-vested in these young men; doctor bills, hospital bills, special clothing, etc. From where I stand, it appears that someone wants to extract all they possibly can from the parents and fans, but, as for making more money, in the case of the DOLLAR AND A HALF admission fee, it appears ap-pears to have backfired. After Thoughts how much are tickets for teachers and their husbands or wives? What happened to the two free tickets that were (at one time) given to each player, supposed for use by his parents par-ents but to use as he chooses? A PAROWAN HIGH FAN is wny was our any more r Why should the sports supporters, sup-porters, parents, relatives, and loyal fans be fleeced. Further, I think this will come as a surprise to many people as it did to me when I recently discovered the boys on the varsity team are NOT treated to a meal after a game away from home, as they very , deservingly were in the past. Presently the boys have to take cold lunches from home |
