Show Figures for travel show increase in National Parks Karl T. Gilbert, General Superintendent Sup-erintendent of the Southern Utah Group, National Park Service, today released figures indicating a notable increase in recorded travel to Cedar Breaks and Capitol Reef National Na-tional ' Monuments and Bryce Canyon National Park. Total visits to Bryce Canyon Can-yon rase from 320,834 in 1968 to 366,929 in 1969, a 14 surge. Use of the campgrounds rose from 92,485 to 93,410. At Capitol Reef total visits rose 23 from 170,957 in 1968 to 210,631 in 1969. Campground Camp-ground use rose from 16,638 to 17,571, and travel along the Fremont River Road, the main drive crossing the Monument, rose from 441,082 to 548,922. The travel increase recorded at Cedar Breaks was an impressive im-pressive 28, as 298,397 visits were recorded in 1969 to compare com-pare with 232,977 for 1968. Visitor Centers will toe open daily throughout the winter at Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef. The Visitor Center at Cedar Breaks is closed. |
