Show Weed Control Confab Attend SLC Iron County Delegates Five Iron Cnonty men attended attend-ed the Utah Weed Control Conference Con-ference in Salt Lake City this past week according to Wallace SJoblom, Iron County Agricultural Agricultur-al agent. In addition to Mr. SJoblom SJo-blom those attending were. Earl Burr, Iron County Commissioner; Horace Hall, district agricultural inspector; Earl Anderson, Iron County weed supervisor, and Louis Maxwell, farmer sr. J licensed li-censed commercial spray applicator. appli-cator. Some of the newer chemicals along with the latest methods of controlling weeds on cropland, range land, canals and roadways were discussed. Although the use of chemicals was thoroughly covered, the use of a pood farming farm-ing program In controlling weeds was in no way minimized. As a matter of fact, Richard A. Fosse, a representative and salesman for Amchen, who makes his living liv-ing selling chemicals, said, "We will never control weeds until we quit planting them" This was furtber emphasized by Louis Jensen, USU extension agronomist, agronom-ist, who pointed out that 36 of, all grain tested In a Utah survey sur-vey last year contained weedi varieties. Some of the samples tested came from Iron County. One panel at the conference considered the question "What should bo our county weed program?" pro-gram?" Mr. SJoblom stated that each of those attending from tron County came back determined deter-mined to take a critical look at our present program in view of attempting to make it more effective. |
