Show GAIL DUNCAN TAKES OVW AS YOUTH CHAIRMAN By Marian Hahn Community Coordinator Gail Duncan last week assumed as-sumed leadership of the Youth. Council Committee of the Cedar City Coordinating Council. Mr. Duncan has been a member of this committee since its organization organi-zation two years ago and was appointed ap-pointed to the chairmanship by the council at its last meeting held Feb. 10, 1959. Mr. Duncan Is a graduate of the Branch Agricultural College and of Utah State University. His work Is with the State Vocational Vocation-al Rehabilitation Division where he serves as rehabilitation counselor. coun-selor. Ho Is at the present time first counselor in the bishopric of the Cedar Eighth Ward. Mr. Duncan takes over the leadership of the comml'tee from J. Frank Dalley who was the first chairman. Mr. Dalley reports that he has enjoyed the work of the committee very much and hasj realized Its Importance but Is out of town a great deal and would not be able to continue v. f, . ' -A -.v ...- j GAIL DUNCAN I with the committee work. Youth Council Is one of the newest of the working committees commit-tees of the Coordinating Council. Coun-cil. Its organization grew out of a recommendation by the PTA council who felt that dealing with the youth problems In Cedar Ce-dar City, needed some sort of unification. Several civic and church groups were Interested In helping our youth solve some of their problems and the PTA felt that they should work together. The Youth Council was then organized or-ganized for that purpose. Their current areas of activity ae: l, youth recreation, 2, youth employment, and 3, youth guidance. guid-ance. At the present time, under the leadership of Mr. Duncan, with the cooperation of the PTA..Youth Council has undertaken the responsibility re-sponsibility of evaluating the current magazines available on the newsstands. The committee feels that many of these magazines maga-zines should not be available to teenagers. They are in the process of securing se-curing cooperation of the drug stores and magazine stands to remove objectionable literature from their shelves. They hope to work together to remove some magazines from circulation cir-culation In Cedar City. The Youth Council feels that the public should be Informed and should cooperate In this matter.
