Show V A Representative Calls Attention To Var Orphan Law The Veterans Administration regional office today announced that Russell R. Neilan. contact representative, will visit the Employment Em-ployment office at Cedar City, March 9 from 1 until 5 p. m. and March 10, from 8 a. m. until 4 p. m. to furnished information on veterans' benefits and to aid local veterans and their dependents depend-ents in making applications. In connection with the Government's Govern-ment's War Orphan education program. Public Law 634. 81th Congress, Mr. Neilan point.! out that VA is now providing educational educa-tional assistance to only 46 war orphans In Utah. Even though this benefit has received considerable consid-erable publicity, two seperate Instances In-stances were brought to light recently re-cently where students have been attending college on their own, when actually had these students known, they could bave been receiving re-ceiving war orphan's assistance. The total potential for Utah Is about 800 of which perhaps 200 orjpiians are now of secondary school age. In explaining this program, Mr. Neilan Indicates that son or daughter of a deceased veteran who died in the service during wartime, or who served during a war and died later as a result of war Incurred disability, would meet the basic eligibility require, ment. This educational program Is available to children between the ages of 18 and 23 for a maximum maxi-mum of 36 calendar months. , While the student is in fulltime ' training. VA may pay this students stu-dents $110 per month. Of course, In certain Instances, training might be approved before age 18 or after age 23, but not as a general rule. In addition to furnishing de- tailed information on these special spe-cial Acts, Mr. Neilan will be prepared pre-pared with information and VA forms to handle regular pension, compensation, hospitalization, GI loans, schooling and other applications appli-cations for benefits administered by the Veterans Administration. |
