Show Sm FAD Axel Lindstrom Writes His Opinions on Overall Movement Editor Standard-Examiner: Having road a number of articles on tho - subject of overall clubs being formed all over the country, r fail to' see that it Is going to do a great deal of good. To go from one extreme to another is not the very best, when wo consider all concerned. I doubt If it will improve the mental faculties of the extremists. Besides, it is liable to hurt business in many lines. Mer- vuuuio miu u.ivu coniracieu lor goods and under obligations to accept the same under all conditions, naturally will suffer when the demand ceases on his product. For many years I have had the privilege of serving the people of all classes and have noticed the tendencies tend-encies of many people to simply ask for an article of the highest price regardless of its durability, and in fact, have seen many cases where a customer fell insulted because a certain cer-tain article had been shown and recommended rec-ommended to bo of belter service, answering, "I don't intend to wear it forever. My clothes wear loo long now." When we consider the short production pro-duction in cotton fabrics, we can not help but see that we are creating an abnormal demand for an article, which will not only advance in price to the detriment of the working class, but also create a shortage in cotton yarns which would go into other merchandise mer-chandise used by all tho people. Our most needed domestics used in every home are climbing skvward every day as it is, and any fad "being Introduced will just end to make them hlshfir. We have had practical illustration of this economy in the past, and why not profit by our experience? It is a fact that all prices are regulated according to supply and demand. If this be true all good of a similar nature na-ture will follow advanced prices. I True economy is not so much in discarding dis-carding one article and then turn around and buy another, as it is to use good judgment in our purchases and to take care of our belongings. In this way,' we might help to hold back the consumption without resorting to any extreme measures which naturally natur-ally will prove disastrous to some merchants, who already have a lot ot" troubles in meeting the many fads coining up frcm time to time. Yours for reasonable measures. (Signed) AXEL LINDSTROM. oo |
